60 New Year's Resolution Ideas to Put On Your 2027 Passion Roadmap

Forget the January 1st pressure. We’re officially leaving the all-or-nothing "new year, new me" mindset behind. At Passion Planner, setting goals isn’t about fixing yourself, it’s about protecting your energy, building micro-habits, and making space for what actually matters.

Resolutions don't have to mean fixing parts of yourself; they’re just gentle shape-shifting toward what feels good, sustainable, and true to your current season. In a fast-moving world, choosing where to direct your focus isn't a test—it's an anchor.

Whether you’re aiming for micro-habits, career pivots, or simply protecting your daily peace, your goals should flex and flow with your life, not control it. Ready to refresh your Passion Roadmap? Here are 60 of our favorite New Year’s resolution ideas to map out your 2027 on your own terms.

New Years Resolutions for Healthy Relationships and Communities

Passion Roadmap

With so many of us juggling busy schedules, digital overload, and a world that’s constantly shifting, connecting with people on a deeper level has become both more challenging and more essential. This new social landscape asks us to be intentional about how we communicate, to protect our time and energy, and to remember what community truly means to us.

After several years of collective stress and uncertainty, many of us are craving relationships that feel grounding, supportive, and real. There’s no better moment to nurture what matters most: our loved ones, our communities, and the future we’re building together.

  1. Express your gratitude in real-time. When someone pops into your head, send them a quick text, voice note, or card to let them know.
  2. Practice active listening and ask deeper questions. Move past the "how's work?" surface talk and create space for real, meaningful conversations.
  3. Call your loved ones when you think of them.
  4. Diversify your typical reading list to include books on antiracism, representation, and social justice.
  5. Become the friend that remembers birthdays. Send a birthday card the old fashioned way.
  6. Host a low-stakes gathering. Swap expensive nights out for cozy host nights, book swaps, or relaxed potlucks to nurture your inner circle.
  7. Shop mindfully. Support small, local, ethical businesses. Here’s a personal favorite of mine!
  8. Fill out our free Organizing Activism PDF created in partnership with local activist Brisa Lauren to create a plan to become more active in your community or cause.
  9. Start volunteering for a community or cause you believe in.
  10. Find the unique way that you want to make a difference in your community.
  11. Shift to a low-waste mindset. Focus on sustainable swaps that fit your actual routine—like refilling household staples or buying secondhand first.
  12. Give your time, money, or talents to community organizations who are pushing for positive change alongside the people who need it most. (May we suggest some of our very own nonprofit partners?)

Financial New Years Resolutions

Managing your money can be an intimidating topic, even under normal circumstances. With so many of us facing financial hardships right now, it can feel like starting from square one. But as we #PashFam always say, “It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to start.” No matter where you are in your financial health journey, investing into yourself and your goals is always a great use of money.

  1. Create an expense tracking spread in your Passion Planner. Or use our free Financial Tracker PDF!
  2. Define your financial goals.
  3. Start tracking your expenses by category.
  4. Set a realistic target to pay down high-interest debt or student loans.
  5. Build or top off a high-yield emergency fund.
  6. Benchmark your salary and negotiate your pay.
  7. Learn the basics of low-effort investing, like index funds.
  8. Budget for charitable donations.
  9. Allocate a "no-guilt" fund for fun and self-care in your monthly budget.
  10. Strategize your credit card use - rewards, travel cards, and more!
  11. Try a new saving strategy, like the envelope method.
  12. Set a clear annual contribution goal for your retirement accounts (like a Roth IRA or 401k).

Self Care New Years Resolutions

Passion Roadmap

We’re reclaiming many things at Passion Planner, but self-care just might top the list. In a society that celebrates “the hustle,” self-care is nothing short of radical. And of course, self-care goes beyond pampering yourself for a night (although we do LOVE that!). Honoring your personal boundaries, practicing gratitude, and self-reflection are all ways to care for the most important of relationships: the one you have with yourself!

  1. Protect your boundaries and embrace the word “no.”
  2. Use up your vacation time - even if it’s just a staycation!
  3. Add journaling to your daily routine.
  4. Start a gratitude log.
  5. Build a low-pressure morning and night routine that fits your actual energy levels.
  6. Devote daily time to non-negotiable rest and reset.
  7. Monitor your screen time, and then...
  8. Swap mindless scrolling for "analog time"—like reading physical books, crafting, or getting outside.
  9. Digital declutter: mute or unfollow accounts that trigger comparison or drain your mental energy.
  10. Explore mental health resources and therapy options that fit your budget and lifestyle.
  11. Expand your horizons and try new genres in music, movies, and books.
  12. Practice intentional news consumption—set boundaries around when and where you catch up on the news.

Healthy New Years Resolutions

Passion Roadmap

When I think of “New Year’s Resolutions,” the first thing that seems to come to mind are fitness goals. Get a gym membership, lose this much weight… goals that enforce an idea that there’s some ideal that I’m not meeting. But fitness is only one aspect of something far more sacred: the act of taking care of my body. Yes, this might include incorporating more movement into your lifestyle, but there’s so much more we can do to honor, listen to, and celebrate our physical bodies.

  1. Find a form of movement that brings you joy—and ditch workouts that feel like punishment.
  2. Schedule those annual checkups, dental cleanings, and preventative screenings.
  3. Wear an article of clothing that used to scare you.
  4. Focus on adding nourishing foods to your plate rather than restricting what you eat.
  5. Learn and preserve favorite recipes from your family or culture.
  6. Get your daily dose of "outside time"—even a 10-minute walk counts.
  7. Floss. (For real this time.)
  8. Grow your green thumb with indoor plants or a windowsill garden.
  9. Listen to your body. Track cycles, eat intuitively, and be mindful.
  10. Base your movement goals on strength, mobility, and feeling good—not aesthetic standards.
  11. Find your cheerleaders - people who make health and wellness fun and positive!
  12. Dress for and celebrate the body you have now.

New Years Resolutions for Self Betterment

Passion Roadmap

You may find yourself asking: What’s the difference between self-care and self betterment? They certainly go hand-in-hand, but let’s take our goals around the self a little further. If self-care can be defined as acts of self service that help you rest and recharge yourself, perhaps we can think of self betterment as the thing that self-care helps fuel. Here are some ways to pursue personal development, from learning new skills to becoming a more effective goal-getter.

  1. Start the year off right: fill out your Passion Roadmap!
  2. Break down your Passion Roadmap goals, and fit them into your weekly schedule with the help of the Growth & Goals Sticker Book!
  3. Go 12 for 12 on your Monthly Reflections.
  4. Small goals are important, too! From scheduling that dentist appointment to finishing that book you’ve been reading forever, little bursts of instant gratification can have a huge impact on your motivation.
  5. Switch up your Passion Planner system (try scrapbooking, new color codes, etc).
  6. Learn a new skill or hobby (Bonus Points: do NOT make it a side hustle).
  7. Get that passion project off the ground (like starting a novel).
  8. Do something that your childhood self dreamed of doing.
  9. Invest in yourself with a class, course, or workshop to sharpen your professional skills.
  10. Deep-dive into a topic you’ve always been curious about, just for fun.
  11. Practice habit stacking like pairing your daily stroll with an inspiring audiobook or podcast.
  12. Learn from the experts around you! Go out of your way to chat with your professor, your boss, etc.

We hope that these New Years Resolution ideas inspire you to look forward to 2027 with renewed hope, excitement, and joy!

These are great ideas! I was trying to find some sort of resolution to stick to this year and then I came across this, https://www.ez.insure/landing/2020/12/word-of-the-year-resilience/ . I think it is very fitting for this year to stick to a word and not necessarily a resolution like “losing 10 lbs.” I think it is more attainable and less likely to be dropped by the month of February like most resolutions are.

It’s really disappointing to me that in 60 goal ideas, not a single one is addressing or focused on social justice work. Now, when we are “leaving 2021 behind”, more than ever, we need companies to continue their work as allies, and that means offering suggestions to their followers for how to continue anti-racist work.

I think these are lovely ideas. It would be really cool if you added in some goals that are focused on social justice. like diversifying your reading list to include marginalized communities. or adding a list of charities to volunteer with or donate to. maybe even new accounts you followed to diversify your feed. I think these goals are just as important as the ones mentioned it would be nice to see those included.

Naquita

I loved this! Thank you!

Amazing blog post! Awesome way to get us to think deeply about our goals. No more “get fit, get new job”broad topics. Thank you!!
